When geekiness collides. It’s no secret that I’m a huge video and film geek, it’s also no real secret that I’m a huge fantasy geek as well. This one of those rare times when the two objects of my obsession collide.
HBO’s new series “Game of Thrones”, is based on arguably the best fantasy novel series of all time (yes this includes Tolkien), by George RR Martin. Even if you’re not into fantasy, Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series is a gripping and compelling read, and no one that I know was able to put the book down after starting it.
So not only was I excited to see HBO’s series (written by Martin himself) come to fruition, but the fact that they shot it on my favorite camera, the Arri Alexa, made me appreciate it on a whole new level. Here is an interview with the Cinematographers: Alik Sakharov, ASC and Marco Pontecorvo, AIC on how the Alexa performed for them, and the workflows involved.
